Chinese Kitchen
About This Spot
Chinese Kitchen is a casual local eatery tucked along the vibrant stretch of South Carrollton Avenue in New Orleans. Walking in, you immediately sense the easy-going rhythm of a neighborhood spot that welcomes familiar faces alongside first-timers seeking comfort food with a side of warm familiarity. The decor is straightforward, punctuated by the quiet hum of friendly chatter and the occasional clatter from the kitchen—an unpretentious backdrop to a meal that feels like a shared ritual more than a hurried transaction.
The atmosphere here invites a slower pace, whether you’re grabbing a quick lunch or settling in for a relaxed dinner. It’s the kind of place where the menu feels like a conversation starter rather than just a list of options, reflecting a blend of classic Chinese-American favorites served with a homey touch. Dishes arrive thoughtfully prepared, offering that familiar mix of savory, sweet, and gently spiced flavors that evoke comfort and memory in every bite.
Local regulars often come for the satisfying egg rolls and generous portions of fried rice, which pair perfectly with hearty bowls of wonton or egg drop soup. You might find yourself drawn to the combinations like boneless chicken with shrimp fried rice—the kind of plates that feel like a welcoming embrace on a busy day. Evenings here tend to bring a relaxed buzz; the clinking of glasses echoes alongside the muted conversations, creating a communal warmth that soothes the spirit.
What feels most authentic about Chinese Kitchen is its role as a neighborhood cornerstone. While the offerings may not always follow the same rhythm, the heart behind the food and the steady stream of familiar smiles make it a place worth returning to. It’s less about flash and more about those consistently human moments—a shared lunch break, a family gathered around a table, a quick takeout made with care—and for many, that’s the true flavor of this place.

I always order the egg rolls from Chinese kitchen. They are usually always delicious but definitely not consistent with the stuffing in the egg rolls, but they are still good. The eggrolls are the only thing I have eaten here, but I do recommend them only wish you could get a couple of fortune cookies without having to pay $.25 for each cookie and also Having to pay for Packets of duck sauce, and soy sauce if you do not add these packets to your order or add the cookies to your order, you will definitely not get any. It just seems when I’ve eaten at other Chinese restaurants. These things are usually complementary. It’s not gonna break me to pay for it……but just saying.
